Description: An Anglo Indian card case in a most unusual form, representing a book. It is in satinwood, framed with incised and lacquered ivory. See Antique Boxes, Tea Caddies, and Society, 1700--1880

pages 149-154and figure 279. The pattern on the border is characteristic of the work done in Vizagapatam, India, for the English market during the eighteen and nineteen century. The  surround of the "book" is in buffalo horn. The spine is detailed with silver lines and is slightly rounded to look more like an authentic book. 

Origin: India.

Circa: 1840

Materials: Sandalwood ivory, horn.

Size: 3.6"x2.5". 9.2x6cm.

Condition: silver line losses, small chips on base, slight wear on black pattern on top near opening.
