Antique Rosewood writing Box with mother of pearl accents

Description:
WB485:  Antique writing box veneered with figured rosewood with rounded edges, and countersunk brass carrying handles, inlaid to the top and front with white metal and mother of pearl accents opening to an embossed faded velvet writing surface and compartments for writing implements and paper.  Circa 1825.

Circa: 1825.

Materials:

Size: 35.5 cm by 24.6 cm by 12 cm: 14 inches by 9.7 inches by 4.7 inches.

Condition:

 

WB485:  Antique writing box veneered with figured rosewood with rounded edges, and countersunk brass carrying handles, inlaid to the top and front with white metal and mother of pearl accents opening to an embossed faded velvet writing surface and compartments for writing implements and paper. The box opens to embossed faded velvet writing surface and compartments for writing implements and paper.

There is a rounded filet of solid rosewood.  The inlay accents are rounds of mother of pearl inlaid with an ebony dot.

 

 The hinges are specially designed for writing boxes There is ware to the velvet of the writing surface especially in the middle

 There are compartments for storing papers under the flaps. The  inner surfaces are not polished.

 The box has one original pewter toped inkwell.

The lock plate is stamped with a crown and "GR"... George Rex.

 

The lock works and has a key.

 There is some veneer cracking to the top. This does not effect the structural integrity of the box.
