Victorian Figured Walnut Writing Box Circa 1870.
A good example of a brass edged figured walnut veneered writing box. 

Both the outside and the interior of the box are French polished. 

The brass is fixed with square section brass pins.

The box is in good original condition and has a working lock and key.

Dimensions: 11.6" wide 8.8 deep 5.8"high inches (closed).

29.5cm wide 22.5cm deep 15cm high

The writing tablet retains is original embossed leather surface.

Under the flaps there are compartments for paper.

The detailing of the corners of the brass edging are interesting using two different treatments. The holding pins are clearly visible.

 

There is also an inlaid brass line.
