Antique Shaped Coromandel Ebony Box with Mother of Pearl Inlay Inside with Lift Out Tray Circa 1835

Shaped coromandel ebony box with mother of pearl inlay depicting stylized flora, having a lift out tray lined with paper and velvet lining . The form of this box is characteristic of the Regency but the mother of pearl inlay dates it to late William IV or early Victorian period. Circa 1835.

Origin: UK ;  Circa: 1835; Materials: Coromandel ebony and mother of pearl.

Size: 28.8 cm wide by 21.3  cm by 15 cm:  11.3  inches wide by 8.4  inches by 5.9  inches.

Condition: good overall There is a patch in the back near one of the hinges. This has been done in matching wood.; working lock and key; see images

The mother of pearl inlay. Some of the ebony has been chased  to give vitality. This can be seen in the enlargement.

Many separate pieces of mother of pearl have to be used to construct the design. Mother of pearl inlay is time consuming to make and was only  used in this way for a short period of the 19th Century.
