Description:
Ref:   143fs    http://hygra.com/face/143fs

Antique Face Screen made of feathers and painted with parrots and flowers.  Circa 1820

This is a really mad face screen. It is made of feathers which have been painted with parrots and flowers. It is obviously the work of an eccentric, a personal flight of fancy.  It has an oriental feel to it but whether it was made in Canton or in England under the intoxicating influence of “ Cathay ”, I cannot tell.

The handle is in turned bone. Where it meets the screen there is a stylised chrysanthemum made of delicately twisted cloth and carved mother-of-pearl. This flower was popular in oriental design.

Origin: UK or China?;  Circa: 1820 ; Materials: feathers, bone, cloth and mother-of-pearl.

Size:  Screen 19 cm wide by 23 cm; handle9.25 cm long: 7.5 inches wide by 9 inches; handle 3.6   inches.

Condition:  Please refer to the above photographs for details of condition. Worn and chewed in places but a miracle of survival nevertheless.
