Description:
Ref:  146fs    http://hygra.com/face/146fs

Pair of Antique embroidered, appliquéd and painted Face Screens.

This is a pair of face screens individually made, to show a lady’s skill and artistry. The flowers are made using silk cloth, the leaves in wool. The central part stands away from the outer part which is painted directly on the silk. The silk fringe harmonises with the flower colours.

The handle is in turned wood and gilded.

Origin: UK ;  Circa: 1820; Materials: silk and wood .

Size:  Screen 20.5 cm wide by 20.5 cm; handle 24 cm long: 8 inches wide by 8 inches; handle 9.5 inches.

Condition:  Please refer to the above photographs for details of condition. Flowers flattened and worn, but considering the delicate nature of the silk it is a miracle so much of it survives.
