Writing Box and Dressing Box (c 1800) A combined writing box and dressing box of c1800. The top writing flap opens down to give access to grooming/shaving accessories. The lower flap has the conventional space for storing paper. The box is typical of the period made with solid mahogany reinforced with brass bindings. The brass binding protects the box from warping in changes of humidity. It also provides structural reinforcement for something expected to have a hard and useful life.
